VISUAL ARTS FIGURE DRAWING AND ILLUSTRATION Monica Shinn This class will combine learning to draw the human figure with a study in illustration. We will draw in every class, studying the figure and drawing from life. We will also be discussing the historical context of illustration and the purpose of illustration as we examine illustrators and their work. The final part of the class will focus on individual projects that combine text and illustration.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

In Digital Photography students gain mastery of digital cameras, Macintosh computers and the use of iPhoto and Photoshop. Students complete projects including weekly shooting assignments, hand coloring, layered collages, image restoration, Panoramas and Panographies, high quality printing and other structured assignments. Along with the all-class assignments, students are required to complete at least one personal project or tutorial of their choice to further their ability to continue beyond the class.
Each student must have a digital camera. If you have a question or if you need to borrow a school camera, please see Mel during registration.
INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY: Mixed Emulsions

Prerequisite: 1 trimester of photography experience or equivalent This is a demanding class in which students will solidify and further their prior knowledge of photography by utilizing different types of photographic processes, investigating photographers and discovering their own vision. The students’ bodies of conceptual work will demonstrate proficiency in technical abilities with the cohesion of self-expression. Students will be required to complete a full body of photographic work and written work including research papers on photographers of their choice.
This is not a beginner’s course. To take this course, you must have either taken Photography I or have equivalent experience. All students should all have their own camera, will need to buy their own film and pay a $25.00 Lab fee.

HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY I:

Since its beginnings in the mid-19th century, photography has dramatically changed our world and how we see that world. In this course, students will develop familiarity with the medium from its prehistory through the early 20th century to the present. We will address photography as a whole. Topics include documentary photography and photojournalism, fashion and portraiture and the use of photography in mass media as well as photography as a fine art. Students in this class must be ready to view and discuss large numbers of images and complete a large number of written projects and presentations.
INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO

Students will learn the basics of video shooting and editing. They will learn how to use a video camera, edit using iMovie, and how to burn their own DVDS. We will concentrate on creating short projects, such as music videos and commercials. This class is for students with little or no video experience.
ADVANCED VIDEO PRODUCTION

This class is for the more experienced students who have used video cameras and editing software. We will be exploring the entire film making experience from pre-production (story boarding and scripting) to post-production (sound editing and creating a final cut of the movie). Last year a fantastic zombie movie was created, and this year could be even better!
INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE FASHION DESIGN

This course introduces you to the many aspects of fashion. You will create inspiration boards using found objects, magazine cut-outs and other items of your choice. These will become your design reference as we move through the class. Exposure to various design methods and fashion sketching skills will provide you with the fundamentals of the design world.
Learn the basics of machine sewing and hand stitching techniques while creating your own wearable art. We will discuss and become familiar with several tools necessary in the world of sewing. You will have the option to redesign and reconstruct garments of your choice or design and construct new garments.
There will be limited work outside of class, but assignments are expected to be finished, and class participation is required for critique. Students will be expected to submit three individual projects throughout the trimester. Students will need to bring their own fabric with which to create garments.
